Six Sentence Sunday "Summer Rain"

“Tell me again about when you made the promise on this ring. What was the condition?” He wanted to make sure he had it right.
She was confused by that. "Nick it was just something silly I had promised myself. Why?"

He held her hand and kissed her ring,  "Because what you said made a lot of sense.  I just never thought about it before.  Honestly, how can we be expected to keep a promise that in reality is so easily broken?"

#InMemoryofChloe

Chloe July 2010-Apr 2011

It 's been almost a year now, since I last heard her belly laughs and saw the smile that would light up a room. Chloe was my niece, a baby girl that I held only hours after she was born and gave me hope after losing my brother. Sadly she was our borrowed angel and only here for a short time but this little face touched so many hearts in so many ways.  I loved her like she was my own child.  Chloe's passing is still unexplained and today my heart is in a court room waiting to hear the result of the neglect charges that the person involved is facing.  In fact every year there are cases of child neglect and abuse that fall through the cracks and end in serious injury or death.  Today is to remember Chloe and children like her. So, why am I  asking my friends on Twitter to RT and put  #InMemoryofChloe  on your status? It's for those forgotten children. The ones who have no voice and the families or friends who tried to help but for some reason or another our pleas feel on deaf ears until it was too late.  I would love to see this trending for at least an hour so that these forgotten children and the ones that loved them know that somewhere out there people do care and will help others like them so that they didn't die in vain.  For me, Chloe will never be forgotten, she will forever be a part of me.

Thank  you

Please feel free to share this post and RT it and ask others to RT it too.

Six Sentence Sunday "Summer Rain"

Suddenly he found himself under her childlike spell.  Her laughter was intoxicating and as they played in the rain, Nick could see his life in front of him.  He saw her doing this with their children, saw her cuddling with them after and telling them stories of this day.  She had truly come out of the darkness, and back to the strong girl he knew she was.  The sky got darker and they heard the first rumble of thunder.  He picked her up and carried her to the lake, the whole time she kick and squirmed to get free.  He put her down when they were waist deep and she threw her arms around his neck and kissed him hungrily.

BLURB:

"When the one thing you live for is taken from you, do you let it go or do you fall?
Jade, like any other student at Brushwood High, awaits the start of the school year with a certain measure of dread. Worse, she is being threatened by a voice that only she can hear—a voice that lurks at the edges of her awareness, haunting her and warning her of something unknown. She has always been able to count on her two best friends, Claire and Nate, but can she confide in them now? About this? Would they even believe her?
Life takes a turn for the better when she meets Avan, a darkly handsome new student who, somehow, seems to drown out the voice and make her feel at ease.
But Jade soon comes to realize that good things don’t last forever. When everything spirals out of control, she is shattered by something she never saw coming. Dazed and despairing, she must now overcome tragedy and embrace her true existence and a new but dangerous love. Will she be able to save herself and those she loves, before it’s too late? Or will she let the surrounding darkness consume her?"
                                         ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Hello and Welcome to all the new people stopping by for the “Feathermore” Blog tour.  I have the honor of your visit today and can’t wait to tell you about this awesome book.  Word of warning, you will get sucked into this book! I give it 5 out of 5 stars not because I know the author and she has become a good friend, but because, it really kept my attention to the point my kids almost didn’t get dinner one night because I was so engrossed in reading.

I was very partial to the main character Jade, not only because as you read her thoughts and get to know her, you can relate to her in a lot of ways, but also that’s my daughter’s name so, well, she was my favorite, lol.  As the story begins we meet Jade as she ready’s herself for the first day of school and the start of the same dull routine until she is haunted by a strange voice that is trying to tell her something.

When she arrives at school she is met and rendered speechless by Avan the new kid at school.  Right away she is drawn to him who the moment he touched her sending a bolt of electricity threw her body. There is something about him and although she wants to find out what it is, she is reluctant at first.

Jade is changing, and not the way we all do when we hit puberty. Her life has hit rock bottom with the death of her parents and the fact that she is finding out that her two best friends are not who she thinks they are and everything about her life and who she really is comes to light.

This book was field with twist and turns that in the end you really won’t see coming. The down point, the ending builds you up in the battle scene that reminds me of Twilight, and like most really great beginnings to a series leaves you saying WHAT?!?!?! I literally wanted to shake my computer and say that can’t be it, but like you I will have to wait.  I know there is a sequel coming so I really can’t wait for that now!!!!!

Great job Lucy, Feathermore is wonderfully written book!

Make sure to check it out!

Peace, Love & Hope~JC

Six Sentence Sunday "Summer Rain"

“Chloe, tell me you love me.” The warmth of his breath giving her chills as he spoke those words softly.  He needed to hear her say it, to overcome her fear and tell him how she felt. She ran her fingers threw his hair as his lips burned at her neck.  She held on to him tightly, almost clinging to him.
“I do love you, Nicholas.” She whispered softly.  When his lips returned to hers she kissed him with renewed urgency.  She wanted him, his warmth, and his passion.

Six Sentence Sunday "Autumn Wind"

Kevin walked in and looked at both of them. “So you don’t want to talk about this?” He asked her.
“Go to hell!” Gabbie said between clenched teeth.
“Love you too!” He shot back.
     “Jerk!” She stormed out.
“Bitch!” He called to her.  Then looked at Chloe.  “Don’t say anything; I'm still not sure what happened.”
Chloe laughed.  “It’s called the walk of shame, you of all people should know it because I've seen you do it enough.”

Sneak Peek #2 of "Autumn Wind"

A few days later she stood at the airport waiting for him to come down the concourse.  Missa was spinning in her Christmas dress that looked a lot like a candy cane.  Chloe laughed and put her hand to her stomach.  Missa had no clue how her life was going to change.  “I see him!” She shouted and then ran to Nick as he came towards them.

He scooped her up in his arms and covered her with kisses all the while she giggled and squirmed to get out of his grip.  As bad as she wanted to tell him, she had to wait for him to open his present.  He quickly kissed her cheek and then stared at her.  “What’s up?”
“Nothing.  We have to hurry; we are going to be late for church.” She said and followed him to get his bags then out to the car.
Once he had put Missa in her seat he shut the door and opened Chloe’s.  Before she got in she smiled at him and put both hands to his face.  She kissed him deeply, feeling him take in a deep breath as her lips lingered, lost in the warmth of his mouth.  She felt his arms rubbing hers bringing her in closer and trying not to mess up her hair.  They heard Missa yell “EWWWW!” and laughed breaking the spell of their interment kiss.
He got in the car and looked at her, still in a daze from their kiss.  “You really must have missed me.” He laughed starting the car.
“Maybe a little.  I just know I got you the best present ever.” She smiled and shook her shoulders a little.
He narrowed his gaze at her.  “Better than the Mustang, because that is pretty hard to beat.” He teased her.
“So much better and trust me, I beat it by a mile.” She laughed.
“Missa, what did mommy get me for Christmas?” He laughed.
“I don’t know daddy.  Is Santa bringing me a puppy?” She whined from how tired she was.
“We will see in the morning.” Nick answered and headed off to church.
After church and back at their mother’s house, the usual tradition began.  Their mother handed out gift bags with match in pajamas for each family except for Kevin and Max s who had the same ones.  The kids happily ripped into them, as the boys groaned at the tradition their mother had kept going.
“I thought this was supposed to stop once we had kids?” Nick protested. Kevin laughed.
“That was something you boys came up with.  I never said it would stop.  Now get on the floor with your children so I can take my pictures.” She ordered them.

Gina had wanted the grandkids first and was a little surprised when Claire sat with the boys on her lap.  Nick looked at Kevin and knew what she was doing.  “Claire I wanted just the kids.” Gina smiled.
“I know that, I though you would want to get the new one in here too.” She smiled and patted her stomach.
Chloe closed her eyes.  There went her surprise.  Mark had always complained how they got over shadowed by them.  Now she couldn’t tell him.  She looked at him and forced a smile.  He winked knowing that she was upset but not for what he was thinking.  She was happy she didn’t put her gift down with the rest of the presents in the garage now.
After the rest of the pictures and the fussing over Claire for the new baby, they all went up to change.  Once Missa was in her nightgown, Chloe sent her down the steps and then tried to hide the gift she had for him.  Nick walked in just as she stuck it in the back of her suitcase.
“Was that it?” He teased her pulling her pack so he could see.
“Ah yeah, but I’m having second thought.  It’s really not that great.  And you should open it next week.” She tried to avoid the reaction she knew would happen.
He took it out and stared at the thin narrow package.  “What is it?”
She tried to take it back but he moved away from her.  “Nick, really I don’t want you to open it.”
“All the more reason to open it.  Come on.  If we do it now, no one will know and you won’t be embarrassed.  I think I know what you did.  And if you did, after the way you kissed me today, I have to see it.” He started to open the package.
Chloe sat and watched him and then saw the disappointment on his face. “A picture frame.  Wow, honey, ahh, okay the best present every.” He was trying to figure out why she had been so excited about this.
“Nick, take it out of the box.” She told him, waiting for him to see what was so great about it.
He opened it and took out the silver frame that held three slots for picture.  “Wow, these are the ones Kevin did.  I love this one of Missa.  She has that look you get sometimes when something amazes you,” He smiled at her then continued. “And this one of you and me is nice and this one…”  He stared at the black and white ultra sound picture and the words, “Merry Christmas Daddy!”  He smiled as he looked at it dazed at the image he saw.
“What about that last one?  Nothing to say?” She smiled waiting for it to hit him.
He dropped down on his knees in front of her.  The sparkle in her eyes said it all.  “Really?” He seemed to be in shock.  Her smile made his heart melt as it made her face a glow.
She took his hand and kissed it softly then placed it on her stomach.  “Really.  Looks like I didn’t need you around that much after all.  And why I have been so emotional when it came to you leaving.”
He thought about when they were worried she was pregnant with Missa, the scared feeling he had but pushed through it to accept whatever the outcome.  Now, he was more relaxed as he let his hand gently rub her stomach and then look again at the picture.  Putting down the frame he looked into her bright green eyes.  “I don’t know what to say.  I love you so much right now.” He laughed a little.
“Say I beat the Mustang?” She hoped.
“Baby, it’s a Mustang, nothing can beat that.” He teased her.  She looked at him in shock.  “I’m kidding; this beats every present I have ever gotten. I can’t wait to tell Missa.” He got up and before he got to the door he stopped.  “Mark and Claire just told everyone about them, damn it!”
“Exactly why I didn’t want to show you right away.  I had just decided to wait until we got back from your Uncles.” She explained.
“You promised after Missa that you would never keep anything like this from me again.  I don’t think you could have kept it anyway; we have wanted this for a while.  But with the way Mark has been lately, its better just keep it to ourselves right now.  It’s killing me, but I don’t need the looks and attitude from him.” He was a little disappointed that he couldn’t share this amazing news, but for now, it was their secret, and he was happy with that.  He put his hand out to her and she slowly went into his arms smiling.  He kissed her nose as she looked up into his eyes.
She smiled at him and touched his face, running her hand threw his short curly dark hair.  “Are you happy?”
He kissed her like she had kissed him earlier, this time with no one to interrupt.  “You’re having my baby, of course I’m happy.  Now if I could just remember what those promises I made all those years ago. Hmmm.” He pretended to think about them.
She laughed and rested her head on his chest, feeling his chin on her head. “You promised to hold my hair back as I puke, which you did in New York.”
“Ah, yes I did do that.  Midnight craving but it’s only 9 so we are good right now.” He added with a smile.
“Dr Appointments and holding my hand as I curse you out when the baby comes.” She giggled.
He thought about that last one.  “Only if I approve what you yell at me.  I need a list so I can think of some really good comebacks.”
“Hmm, You bastard, this is your fault!  How’s that!” She giggled and looked up at him as he thought of an answer.
He smirked.  “Honey, you’re absolutely right.  It is all my fault.  I should have never made you dress that sexy and drink all that wine that night.  And what was I thinking to actually think you would not want me to have my way with you. But in my defense, you were screaming at the height of climax, “Harder, I want to have your baby!”
“Nicholas Robert Allen, if you say that in the delivery room…” He stopped her with a kiss.
“What, you did say that, maybe not that night but I do remember you screaming that one night.  And it seemed to work. God your eyes are so beautiful, you are glowing baby.” He lovely touched her cheek.
“I love you Nicholas Allen.” She smiled and kissed him.
He laughed remembering that game.  “I love you Chloe Allen.  Let’s go find our daughter.”
After the painful tradition of watching the Christmas videos and then putting the kids to bed, the guys put together they toys for the morning and Max watched the two puppies that waited the kids.  For the boys, their mother had gotten them the Husky or snow dog as they put it and for Missa she had picked out a cute little brown and white King Charles spaniel.  Nick watched the puppy and wondered if this was a good idea now that Chloe was pregnant. But seeing how it pulled at the little ribbons on Missa’s presents, he knew Chloe would love it just as much.  He reached over and rubbed its little head and the puppy yawned at him.  “Yeah, I’m tired too.  I had a 4 hour flight, what’s your excuse.”
“She’s 8 weeks old and has been playing nonstop with Max.  You do realize you were just talking to a dog, right?” Kevin laughed snapping the castle bridge on to the front of the pink palace.
“How unfair is this, Mom and Dad would never let us have a pet and she bought our kids puppies?” Mark asked as he watched the Husky sleeping by the tree.
“Why is that?  We would have had so much so much fun with a dog.” Max asked them.
“We did have one, way before you were born, but Kevin thought he could ride it like a horse.” Nick answered.
“It was a huge dog, and I would have been fine if you didn’t try to offer free pony rides.” Kevin shot at him.
“Kevin you ruin everything.” Max laughed.
Kevin looked at him.  “Yep Max, I do ruin everything.  Remember that when you want to go snowboarding.”
Nick laughed.  “With that being said, I’m out of here.  I haven’t gotten to sleep with my wife in over a week and the thought of snuggling up next to her is better than sitting here with you guys.”
“Eww, are you talking about sex, because mom will so kill you if you do it in this house.” Max said to him.
Kevin snickered.  “Ah Max he has had sex with Chloe in this house more than you know.”
“I have not!  Well maybe but not tonight, she’s asleep and I’m too tired.” Nick laughed and went up to bed.
He had checked on Missa first and then went into their room and sat on the side of the bed watching Chloe as she slept.  She had first fallen asleep during the videos while the one of their first Christmas with Missa played.  Now she was lying on her back, a hand on the side of her face and the other gently resting on her stomach.  He got in next to her and slowly unbuttoned her shirt a little.  She moved and he waited for her to settle back into the sleep she was in.  Slowly he placed his hand on her bare stomach and leaned in and kissed it.  “Hey in there, it’s daddy.  Merry Christmas, I can’t wait to meet you.” He whispered softly.  He felt her hand as she started to run her fingers through his hair.
“I love you.” She said in just above a whisper.
He came up to her and kissed her lightly.  “I love you too my beautiful angel.”  She rested her head against him and drifted back to sleep. He kept his hand on her stomach and thought about when she had been carrying Missa.  The long nights they had been apart and how uncertain things had been.  Even in the beginning, they had not known the first test they took was wrong.  He had missed this time.  Then he had to go on that stupid trip to Guatemala and all hell broke loose.  It wasn’t until towards the end she finally let him near her again.  This time it was different.  He was here and she was his wife.  They didn’t have to worry about what their parents would say or school.  Their life was complete now.  These were his thoughts as he too drifted off to sleep and thought of the joys the morning would bring as he watched his daughter play with her puppy and rested his hand on his wife’s stomach touching his baby as it grew inside of her.

Sneak Peek "Autumn Wind"

After they had finished dinner and Max has scored his first date, they headed to the ice rink to hit the puck around.  It had been years since the three older brothers had been on the ice, but it came back quickly.  Nick shot the puck to Kevin and laughed when he fell trying to get it.
“Can I ask you guys something?” Max skated backwards watching his two older brothers.
Kevin passed to Mark who shot it at Max.  “You can ask us anything Max, we are always here for you.”
Max stopped and looked at them.  “Mom has been talking to me about making that promise you guys took.  I don’t think I want to.” It was the first time the kid has been honest and talked to them about something like this.
“You’re doing it, so there is nothing to talk about.” Mark shot at him.
“Mark, you’re not my father.  You can’t make me do things I don’t want to do.  Forget I even brought it up.” Max said and shot the puck hard at Kevin.
“No Max, you wanted to talk about it.  Don’t listen to what he said, talk.  Why don’t you want to?” Nick asked him pissed that Mark had shot the kid down.
“I just don’t see the point.  I mean look at you guys.  Was it even worth it?” Max asked him.
Mark laughed at that.  “Yeah let’s look at Nick and Kevin.  Nick knocked up his girlfriend and screwed up their future and Kevin ran away to LA so he didn’t have to deal with who he was sleeping with too.  Great role models Max.”
Nick saw red.  “Aright, that’s it!  I'm so tired of this shit Mark.” He threw down his stick and got into his face.
“What Nick?  The truth!  You had a promising future and so did Chloe.  Christ that school she got the scholarship to would have done so much for her.  I warned you that you were going to fuck up and mess up both your lives.  Maybe Max needs to know that so he doesn’t follow in your footsteps.” Mark yelled at him.
“Are you calling my daughter a fuck up?  We made a mistake Mark, people do that.  I don’t expect you to understand that because you are so perfect.” Nick yelled at him.
Max looked at Kevin.  “Should we break this up?”
Kevin messed up his hair.  “No bro, this has been coming for a long time.  Nick needs to get this out.  If it comes to blows then we can break it up.”
“Your life could have been perfect too if you would have kept it in your pants.  If it wasn’t for me, you would have nothing.  I made you who you are because Uncle Robb told me to help you out so you could support that baby.” Mark explained.
Nick shook his head.  “Your right St Mark, you did everything for me.  Your one of the biggest problems with my marriage right now too.  I can’t be home with my fuck up as you put it or even sleep with my wife because I’m at your beckon call.  Christ I can’t even parent my daughter because you feel you have to.  I’m so sick of you thinking that you’re in charge.  You’re not dad stop acting like it.”
“Someone has to.  You couldn’t man up and tell Max he died and Kevin ran away.  And the reason you are at my beckon call is because I’m your boss.  I can’t leave my family.  You have one kid and if Chloe can’t handle her, then maybe you two should have thought about that when you were messing around.  I have two kids and one on the way.  My wife needs me at home to help her.  You need to realize that you are paying for the mistake you made and doing what you have to do to keep a roof over your head.” Mark yelled at him.
Nick pushed him back.  “Fuck you.  I didn’t need your pity.  As for Chloe and our mistake, she has done an amazing job with her and I thank God every day that I have the two of them.  They are the only reasons that keep me going.  So happy you were able to knock your wife up again.  See we want to have another baby, but I have to be around to do that, and you are making that really hard.  So have a nice life, and stay the hell out of mine.  I quit.” He skated off the ice and away from Mark.
“Max, go get your skates off and get ready to go.” Kevin told him and then looked at Mark.
“What, now it’s your turn?  Go ahead Kevin, let me have it too.” Mark said to him.
Kevin shook his head.  “I just want to know where you get off treating him like that.  How you could stand here and say the things you said about Missa.  Nick did screw up his life and Chloe’s but they have stayed together and made a great life for themselves and Missa.”
“I'm so tired of everyone feeling sorry for them.  I have worked my ass off to get where I am and no one seems to realize that.” Mark explained.
“So sorry Mark, you want a pat on the back?  You gave him a job.  He worked to get where he is too.  And where you and Claire had everything handed to you, Nick used his trust fund to take care of Missa and Chloe.  Uncle Robb was going to give him a job wither you did or not, he told me that.  He had one for me too, but I wasn’t interested.  As for Max, let the kid be who he wants to be.  Stop trying to make him us.  He’s right, you’re not dad.” He replied.
“Yeah and if dad was here, your ass would be home to deal with the mess you left behind.  When are you going to stop running away from your problems.  Do you honestly think that by taking a job in the city it’s going to fix things?  It won’t.  You ran away Kevin because life smacked you in the face.  People die, and the girl you loved wanted to spend her life with you and it scared the hell out of you.  You think by coming home you can fix things?  Kevin comes home and all is right with the world.  New flash Kevin, dad is still gone. Max still can’t handle it. Nick is still trying to get his life together, and I’m holding everyone together.  Tell Nick I will call him later to finish this.” Mark said and left the ice.
After dropping Max off Kevin took Nick to the bar.  Chloe’s adopted father owned the place and told them where to sit and joined them for a drink.  Nick drank the first shot down quickly and waited for Ken to fill the glass up again.
“Getting shit faced isn’t going to fix things.” Kevin said pouring the shot.
Drinking it down, Nick looked at him.  “Did I just quit my job?”
Kevin laughed.  “He isn’t going to let you quit.  Uncle Robb won’t let that happen.  Apparently me coming home isn’t going to fix things either.”
Nick looked at him.  “You coming home is what will help me keep my sanity.  Here’s to fucking up my life.” He raised his glass and then took a drink of the beer Ken had bought them.
“Keeping the peace isn’t always the best thing.  Boy you have done a great job at taking care of your family.  Don’t let your older brother take that away from you.  Hell in my day, I would have ended up in a broke down trailer if I had stayed with Lissa.” Ken explained trying to help the situation.
“I think she would have taken that over what she got.  Christ right now I would take that.  He has done a lot for me, but am I forever going to be paying him back for that.  And he did say Claire is pregnant.” Nick asked
“Yep, so she will be hell to live with.  With the boys she couldn’t lift a pillow that was right next to her.” Kevin laughed.
Nick closed his eyes.  “One more thing to add to Chloe’s argument on me being away so much.  He can be home to take care of his pregnant wife and children and you have to be somewhere else so I have to go to a sperm donor to have our baby.” He could hear her now.  Not that she was wrong.  He knew how bad they had both wanted this.  Now Mark has made it possible for Claire and he let Chloe down by being away so much.
“Bro, don’t worry about it.  While you’re gone, I’ll work on getting her knocked up.  You can thank me later.” Kevin teased him.  Nick shot him the finger and took another drink from his beer.

Wait, why are you doing that to them????

When I was working on “Summer Rain” it was at a devastating time in my life as I was grieving the loss of my “Chloe”.  I poured my emotions into it and in some of the scenes you can really tell I did.  But I think that is what made it the touching story it turned out to be.  (My words and some of the test readers.)  And now as I write “Autumn Wind” I’m right back there.  It has almost been a year since I last saw that smiling face of my niece and heard her little laugh as my husband played with her, and now as I come to a part in this story, I can feel the emotions all coming back.

This post isn’t about that though, it is about how real our characters can be to the readers.  As a writer they of course are real to you and you feel horrible for what you put them through, (Not really when they keep their scenes playing through your mind as you try to sleep, relax, drive, or anytime you are trying to have some fun…you know what I mean).  I mention this because it had become all too real for me when I’m sitting with my daughter (Amber who is 14) and I pitch ideas to her. I remember one day after I picked her up from school and told her how I had written an accident scene that involved Nick and Kevin.  The look on her face as I explained what had happened was one of “What have you done and please don’t let one of them die.” So after explaining the idea I had about how the story could play out, she (being the carbon copy of me) started to yell at me about how I couldn’t do this to them!  How unfair I was being and I had better fix it!  So I scratched that idea and it still turned out to be a story I was very happy with and one I can’t wait for people to read and see what they think.

Now as I’m writing this one, I have been reading to my mom and also sending some to a writer friend of mine. * Note to all, if I turn up dead anytime soon; have them question my mom and said friend.*  They both have an idea where I’m going and are both willing to kill me if I do what they think I’m going to do.  This time, it has to be this way.  Sorry, you will see as it plays out why.  I guess the funny thing that has happened was that today my mom said to me when I called her, “I am really worried about Kevin and Gabbie.  I wish they could see that they really belong together and work this out before Gabbie gets married to that jerk Jason.”  Ah okay, nice way to start the phone call, lol.  I love the reactions I get from test readers too.  It makes me see how I must be doing something right to make people get so in tune with my characters that they think of them as real people and worry about them.

I really am not sure how I will feel when I’m done writing about the Allen family.  I still have 2 more books after this one and as I am writing I have to come to see them as real people who are just trying to live their lives as long as the crazy woman writing it will let them be.  In the stories I can always go back and redo what I have done.  I only wish that in real live we could do the same.  Miss ya Chloe!

Six Sentence Sunday "Autumn Wind"

She wasn’t going to let him off so easy, she was going to make him work if she wanted her so bad.  When he started to rub himself against her she stopped him cold.  Gabbie walked over to the bed and sat on the edge.  “You want me so bad, crawl for me jerk.” She ordered him. It was a side of her he didn’t know.  She was going to make Kevin pay for breaking up with her.
